Wireless Mic Receivers

Wireless Mic Receivers

A wireless microphone is only as reliable as the receiver that picks it up. This category covers the rack-side half of that partnership: the unit that sits with your mixer, amplifier or DSP and turns a handheld, beltpack or headset into a stable, usable system.

Commercial Audio Solutions stocks receivers from manufacturers long used in schools, churches, hotels, conference rooms, fitness studios and multi-purpose halls.

Mipro is well known for compact digital systems and wideband UHF true-diversity ranges with simple one-button sync. TOA’s commercial wireless lines are a familiar choice in installed sound, with analogue and digital UHF options on licensed Channel 38 or licence-free Channel 70. Audio-Technica brings licence-free 2.4 GHz digital receivers.

Receivers differ first by how many microphones they handle. A single-channel unit is enough for one presenter, instructor or lecturer. Dual-channel receivers put two independent mics in one rack space—useful for a pair of fitness instructors, a host and guest, or team teaching. Quad-channel receivers cover larger rooms where several speakers share the same system.

They also differ by radio band. Licence-free 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz digital receivers avoid TV bands and Ofcom Channel 38 paperwork, which suits many gyms, classrooms and small venues. Licensed UHF (typically Channel 38) is often preferred when you need more simultaneous microphones, longer range or a quieter spectrum in a busy building. True diversity and space-diversity designs help keep the signal solid as people move.

Antennas and distribution complete the picture. Directional or remote antennas help when the rack is in a cupboard or another room. Linked chassis and network control suit venues that grow from one mic to a whole wireless inventory.

Match the receiver to your transmitters, channel count and licence plan, and the rest of the system—headset, handheld or lavalier—can do its job without drop-outs, hiss or last-minute frequency hunts.

FAQs

Why buy a receiver separately instead of a complete wireless system?

Buy a spare or extra receiver when you already have matching transmitters, when you are expanding a multi-channel rack, or when you need a different channel count (single, dual or quad) in the same radio family. A receiver will not work with a random handheld from another series.

Do wireless receivers and transmitters have to be the same brand and series?

Yes. Frequency band, digital/analogue format and pairing protocol must match. A 2.4 GHz receiver will not hear a Channel 38 UHF pack. Always specify the same wireless series as the existing mics.

Should I choose licence-free or licensed UHF receivers in the UK?

Licence-free receivers in this range are typically 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz or Channel 70. Channel 38 UHF usually needs an Ofcom licence and is better when you need more simultaneous mics or a cleaner band. Check current UK rules for the site before you standardise.

Is 2.4 GHz or 5.8 GHz better for a wireless receiver?

Both are licence-free. 2.4 GHz is common and simple but shares the band with Wi-Fi. 5.8 GHz is often less crowded. UHF generally gives more range and more channels in a busy building. Choose by how many mics you need at once, not by the highest GHz number.

What does diversity mean on a wireless receiver?

Diversity uses two antennas (or two receive paths) so the receiver can ride through dropouts when the presenter moves. True diversity is worth specifying for larger rooms and stages. A single-antenna budget receiver is fine only in a small, clear space.

Do I need a separate antenna with a wireless receiver?

Many receivers work with the supplied whip antennas on the front or rear. A directional or remote antenna helps when the rack is in a cupboard or the room is large. Antennas must match the receiver’s band (2.4 GHz antennas will not help a UHF receiver).

Who can help me match a wireless receiver to existing microphones?

Commercial Audio Solutions stocks single, dual and multi-channel receivers from brands such as Mipro, TOA and Audio-Technica. Call 01663 767888 or email sales@commercialaudiosolutions.com with the transmitter series you already use and whether you need licence-free or Channel 38 UHF.
